The closest airport to Alpbach is Innsbruck, Austria (INN). Innsbruck can be reached from several major European hubs, and several low-budget airlines fly to the airport. We will provide a free shuttle service on the arrival day (Monday, 8 Sept.) and on the departure day (Sunday, 14 Sept.) to and from the airport. Transfer time is about one hour.

Please check Austrian Railways or German Railways. For participants coming from the west (Switzerland) or south (Italy), we recommend that you travel to Innsbruck main train station. For those coming from the north (Germany) or east (Hungary), Wörgl main train station is the best destination. We will provide a free shuttle service from these two train stations on the arrival day (Monday, 8 Sept.) and on the departure day (Sunday, 14 Sept.). Transfer time is between 30 min (Wörgl) and one hour (Innsbruck).

Alpbach has a population of 2,600 and is located in Tyrol, Austria. It occupies a beautiful location on a sunny plateau at approx. 1,000 m above sea level in the Austrian Alps. Thanks to its homogenous architectural style and lovely floral decorations Alpbach was voted "Austria's most beautiful village" and also "Europe's most beautiful flower village".

The village's character is unique in Europe. Alpbach is also famous for the international congress "European Forum Alpbach", which has been taking place here every summer since 1945 and which is an important platform for economists, scientists, politicians and artists. The Congress Centre Alpbach and its genius architecture have put Alpbach well in tune with the new millenium.

1. What is the poster board size?

The poster board size is: max 150 cm height and 120 cm width (portrait format).

2. What expenses should I expect?

The HBP Education Programme Office will cover the following expenses:

  • Accommodation
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Coffee/tea during the scheduled coffee breaks

Participants must cover the following expenses:

  • Beverages during lunch and dinner
  • Travel

3. How can I pay for my additional expenses at the venue?

Additional expenses, such as beverages, must be paid for in cash. There are two ATM machines in walking distance of the meeting venue.

4. What if I need medical care on-site?

We strongly recommend that you invest in a travel insurance and educate yourself about treatment and reimbursement conditions before travelling to Alpbach. If you are a European citizen, you should bring your European Health Insurance Card. There is a local doctor in Alpbach who also has a medicine cabinet. He accepts the European Health Insurance Card in combination with an identity card.

The nearest public hospitals are Schwaz (approx. 25 min drive) and Kufstein (approx. 40 min drive). Please note that you might have to ask your health insurer for authorisation before being treated, and for ambulance costs. 

5. What is the typical climate in Alpbach?

Alpbach is located 1000 m (3280ft) above sea level. In early fall the weather may be variable with average temperatures between 10 and 22°C.

If you wish to discover the beautiful alpine landscape in your free time, we recommend that you bring hiking shoes and rain gear. 

6. Is there free Internet available onsite?

Free WLAN is available at the Congress Centre Alpbach as well as in the accommodation provided for the participants.
